Overview: JAI House part 1

This is the JAI House, a one-family villa located in Calabasas, north east of Los Angeles in California. The house is designed by the architect Lorcan O´Herlihy for Julie Piatt and Richard Roll and their three children. They are both documentary filmmakers and beside the common interests in movies they are much involved in yoga. Therefore O'Herlihy designed the JAI House with both a yoga studio in the ground floor and a big screen cinema in the rooftop terrace. 

The JAI House was completed in 2004. The shapes are very simple; rectangles that cross each other with details like an extra layer of dark grey wall attached to the minimalistic white box. There is of course also a swimmingpool that belongs to the house. In this case the swimmingpool cuts through the house body and makes the white rectangular main body of the house open, spacious and airy instead of compact.
